KISMAYO — In line with its steadfast humanitarian approach and embodying its mission of peace and benevolence through building bridges of global cooperation, the Sultanate of Oman continues its pioneering initiatives to alleviate human suffering. These efforts support the resilience of communities affected by climatic and economic crises, rooted in the fraternal bonds and historical ties shared with the Federal Republic of Somalia.
The Government of the Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Oman Charitable Organization (OCO), launched an urgent relief campaign in the “Bulagudud” area of Lower Juba, Jubaland State. The campaign distributed comprehensive food baskets to 1,200 vulnerable and displaced families facing exceptional living conditions due to recent climate fluctuations.
The assistance included strategic food supplies such as rice, sugar, flour, and cooking oil. These were carefully prepared to meet the basic needs of families in the strategic area of Bulagudud, which serves as a vital hub for displaced populations seeking safety and essential services north of Kismayo.
This initiative comes at a critical time to ease the living burdens on the population, coinciding with a significant rise in the prices of basic commodities. It aligns with the Sultanate’s vision to bolster food security and stability in the hardest-hit regions, ensuring the provision of dignified living requirements for affected families.
During the distribution ceremony, local officials and community elders expressed their profound gratitude to the leadership and people of Oman. They emphasized that this noble humanitarian stance reflects the leading role of the “Sultanate of Giving,” which has consistently supported the Somali people through various crises and challenges.
For their part, the beneficiaries expressed their appreciation for this generous gesture, noting that these food baskets would directly secure their families’ nutritional needs for several weeks, providing a sense of food security amidst the current challenges facing the regions of Jubaland State.
