Somalia strengthens disaster management system through strategic partnership with Swedish organization

MOGADISHU — In a targeted strategic move to enhance Somalia’s disaster management capabilities, the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) held a productive inaugural meeting with the Swedish organization, LM International. The meeting aimed to establish the foundation for a long-term strategic partnership focused on developing an effective national system to address humanitarian and environmental disasters.

SoDMA’s Chairman, Mohamud Moallim Abdulle, hosted a high-level delegation from the Swedish organization, led by Ms. Josephine Sundqvist, at the agency’s headquarters in Mogadishu.

The meeting explored future avenues of collaboration, with Abdulle providing a comprehensive overview of SoDMA’s ambitious goals and plans to establish an integrated crisis response system.

For her part, Ms. Sundqvist affirmed LM International’s commitment to providing technical and logistical support to Somalia’s efforts, highlighting the organization’s extensive experience in humanitarian and development work.

Both sides expressed optimism that this partnership will be a turning point toward building a more resilient and capable Somali society in the face of future challenges.

As a culmination of these discussions, the two parties agreed to draft a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which will serve as a roadmap outlining the cooperation frameworks in vital areas such as disaster preparedness, immediate response, and strengthening local capacities.

The MoU is scheduled to be signed at a later date, opening new horizons for joint cooperation between the two sides.
