Somalia announces major strides in health sector

MOGADISHU —  The Somali National News Agency (SONNA) reported that the Minister of Health and Social Welfare of the Federal Government, Dr. Ali Haji, presented a detailed account of landmark achievements in the development of the country’s healthcare infrastructure during the National Press Week Forum.

According to SONNA, these accomplishments include the rehabilitation of eight hospitals in Mogadishu and several federal member states, as well as the launch of projects to construct six new hospitals in various regions. The initiative aims to bring essential medical services closer to communities, reducing the burden of long-distance travel for treatment.

The agency added that the minister emphasized the government’s commitment to recruiting highly qualified medical professionals, noting that Banadir and Martini hospitals have been equipped with the latest medical tools and devices, enhancing their capacity to diagnose, monitor, and manage diseases more effectively.

Dr. Ali Haji, as quoted by SONNA, affirmed that the ministry continues its oversight of private health institutions, praising the strong cooperation and active partnerships between the public and private sectors, which contribute to improving the overall quality of healthcare services nationwide.

This progress, SONNA stressed, reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to implementing a comprehensive strategic vision to deliver modern and equitable healthcare to all citizens across Somalia.
