MOGADISHU — In a significant move to strengthen the national agricultural output, the Federal Government of Somalia’s Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, Mr. Mohamed Abdi Hayir (Maareeye), distributed vital agricultural equipment to farmers in collaboration with Qatar Charity. The Somali National News Agency (SONNA) highlighted that this initiative aims to empower farmers by encouraging the adoption of modern agricultural techniques to increase productivity.
The package included 40 motorcycles to efficiently transport farm produce to markets, alongside 40 grain processing machines designed to ease the cleaning and preparation of corn and other grains, reducing manual labor and boosting output.
During the handover ceremony covered by SONNA, Minister Maareeye urged farmers to embrace self-reliance and focus on boosting production, emphasizing the crucial role of agricultural development as a pillar for economic growth and poverty reduction. He also stressed the importance of engaging a new generation of youth skilled in modern technologies such as greenhouses to modernize and strengthen the sector.
SONNA further reported that this partnership with Qatar Charity reflects the government’s strategic vision to support key economic sectors by providing essential resources and promoting innovation, as part of broader efforts to improve livelihoods and foster sustainable development across Somalia.
