MOGADISHU — The Chairman of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mahamoud Moalim Abdulle, lauded the urgent and proactive response of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, affirming that it was the first country to officially respond to the humanitarian appeal launched by the Federal Republic of Somalia to combat the severe drought.
Abdulle stated – in a declaration following his meeting with the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques’ Ambassador to Somalia, Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Mawlid, and the Director of the KSrelief Africa Branch, Yazeed Humoud – that the Kingdom immediately provided relief aid through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief), in response to the consequences of the lack of rainfall in the country.
The discussions focused on methods to accelerate the delivery of this urgent assistance aimed at alleviating the suffering of the affected, with approximately (84,000) individuals from the most vulnerable groups expected to benefit from the aid.
The Chairman expressed his deep gratitude and appreciation for the Kingdom’s efforts, valuing the swiftness of its response, which represents a key pillar in the plan to save those affected by the drought. He commended the Kingdom’s firm and continuous stance in supporting the Somali people throughout various crises and adversities.
In turn, Ambassador Al-Mawlid affirmed that these relief efforts undertaken by KSrelief embody the directives of the Kingdom’s leadership, represented by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince and Prime Minister – may God protect them – to support all sisterly and friendly countries and provide them with humanitarian aid, noting the depth of the fraternal relations uniting the two countries.
