GAROWE — Somalia’s Puntland State Minister of Fisheries has on Sunday held talks with Etienne Peterschmitt, the Country Director for the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Somalia.
The meeting between the Minister and the Director took place in the region’s capital Garowe.
The talks centred around a range of issues primarily key being the ongoing projects and priorities.
The two officials came into consensus that Puntland’s coastline, which is the longest in Somalia, has the potential for a strong fisheries sector.
The United States Agency for the World’s Food and Agriculture has initiated and implemented several key projects including the building of key infrastructure facilities in the State.
Recently, FAO and the United European Union handed over Information Management Centre (IMC) to the Government of Puntland State.
The launch was part of ongoing joint efforts by FAO to enhance technical and operational capacity to produce and provide water and land (WAL) information products and services that inform policy, planning and future development initiatives in the country.
