District official killed in landmine blast in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU — A district official in Mogadishu was killed this morning after his vehicle hit an improvised explosive device suspected of being planted on the road.

The officer, identified as Abdi Mohamed Mohamud, who was the deputy in charge of security and political affairs in the Daynile district, succumbed to injuries in the mid-morning incident in the Daru-salam area.

Some of his staff are reported to have been injured, but there was no immediate information on their state.

The attack adds to such increasing incidents in Mogadishu amid a fragile security situation following the ongoing electoral stalemate.
