SoDMA and Hirshabelle strengthen cooperation for Jalalaqsi relief

MOGADISHU – The Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) and Hirshabelle State, on Saturday, discussed ways to strengthen the humanitarian response to the deteriorating situation in Jalalaqsi district of the Hiiraan region during a high-level meeting held at SoDMA headquarters in Mogadishu. The meeting brought together SoDMA Chairman Mohamud Moallim Abdulle, Hirshabelle Deputy President Yusuf Ahmed Hagar, members of the Federal Parliament, and senior government officials as part of efforts to coordinate the national response to the humanitarian crisis caused by recent clan clashes.

The meeting reviewed comprehensive field reports indicating large-scale displacement of families, damage to essential services including water sources and health facilities, and a sharp rise in urgent food and humanitarian needs, requiring accelerated relief operations and timely delivery of assistance to the most affected populations.

The SoDMA Chairman stated that the agency is implementing an emergency response plan in coordination with local authorities and humanitarian partners. The plan focuses on continuous needs assessments, rapid delivery of aid, and strengthened coordination among stakeholders to improve relief efficiency and prioritize the most vulnerable groups, including children, women, the elderly, and displaced families.

For its part, the Hirshabelle delegation stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation between the Federal Government and the regional administration to address the humanitarian consequences of the crisis. It emphasized that effective response depends on continuous field coordination, timely information sharing, and integrated efforts among national institutions and humanitarian partners.

Jalalaqsi has witnessed recent clan clashes resulting in casualties, displacement, and damage to property and infrastructure. SoDMA serves as Somalia’s national authority responsible for coordinating emergency response efforts, while cooperation between the Federal Government and Federal Member States remains essential to ensuring rapid humanitarian assistance, improving crisis response, and supporting stability in affected areas.
