MOGADISHU — The Somali National Army and “Gorgor” special forces have launched large-scale relief operations in the Lower Shabelle and Bay regions, as part of the state’s efforts aimed at alleviating the suffering of citizens affected by successive humanitarian crises and the current security situation.
The operations focused on the “Dhanaane” area in Lower Shabelle, where army units began securing drinking water for residents on a daily basis via water tanker trucks, compensating for the severe shortages caused by damage to infrastructure and water wells that had been sabotaged in previous periods.
In a related context, the “Gorgor” special forces dispatched humanitarian convoys to the “Mad-dhoos,” “Gomarey,” and other areas in the Bay region, which included the distribution of various food rations, the provision of urgent medical services, and the supply of potable water to alleviate the impact of drought and acute food shortages.
These humanitarian initiatives come in response to the harsh conditions experienced by the residents of these areas, who face complex challenges combining the repercussions of climate change and security disturbances, directly affecting their ability to obtain daily basic necessities.
Citizens in the targeted areas expressed their appreciation for this gesture, pointing out the difficulty of covering water costs in light of current living conditions, while simultaneously expressing their aspirations for the implementation of sustainable projects such as digging artesian wells and establishing educational centers for their children.
Field military commanders emphasized that these humanitarian tasks are an integral part of their national duties, stressing that protecting the Somali people and securing a dignified livelihood for them is no less important than the military operations aimed at establishing stability and building peace.
These operations reflect the cohesion between the military institution and the community, as the forces are not limited to their security tasks alone, but extend to be a help to citizens in times of hardship, which contributes to strengthening community trust in official institutions and consolidating national unity among all components of the people.
The Somali Armed Forces stand today as a protective shield for the nation and a beacon of hope for its children, where the sweat of construction blends with the effort of protection. Through this, the army establishes the principles of sacrifice and loyalty, affirming that the state’s hand that protects the borders is the same hand that reaches out with goodness and giving, to build with the people a more stable and prosperous future, deriving its strength from the depth of the unbreakable humanitarian bonds between the soldier and the citizen.
