BRA conducts technical assessment of Warta Siigaale

MOGADISHU — The Banadir Region Administration (BRA) has launched a proactive technical move to evaluate the structural integrity of the Warta Siigaale rainwater drainage project in Mogadishu; this step comes in response to engineering reports issued by the Somali Engineers Association (SEA), which identified precise technical observations requiring immediate attention to ensure the durability of this facility.

This initiative stems from the humanitarian responsibility the region places upon itself towards the capital’s residents; the objectives of this move extend beyond the engineering aspect, aiming to safeguard lives and property from flood risks, especially after initial inspections revealed that the project requires maintenance to enhance its efficiency in facing weather fluctuations.

It is worth noting that Banadir Region inaugurated the Warta Siigaale project in August 2025 as part of its comprehensive developmental vision aimed at addressing rainwater drainage challenges in Mogadishu and improving urban infrastructure, making this project a cornerstone in the region’s strategy to enhance the city’s resilience against climate change.

In this context, Eng. Ibrahim Abdi Haile, Chairman of the Somali Engineers Association, emphasized the strategic importance of this assessment, stressing that sensitive national projects overseen by Banadir Region always require a scientific approach characterized by precision and transparency to ensure the highest standards of quality and safety that serve the public interest.

Eng. Haile stated: “This review is not just a routine procedure, but an investment in the safety and sustainability of our public facilities. Our goal is to ensure that the Warta Siigaale project operates according to the best technical specifications, remaining a service edifice that provides the people of Mogadishu with peace of mind and reflects the region’s commitment to continuous development that touches people’s daily needs.”

The Association called in its professional statement for close cooperation with Banadir Region to review designs and execution mechanisms, apply urgent corrective solutions that ensure the project’s operational efficiency, and emphasized the necessity of strengthening the technical oversight system for all developmental projects implemented by the region to ensure their quality and longevity.

Banadir Region’s developmental vision is anchored in sound planning and reliance on in-depth studies and international standards, believing that true development places citizen safety at the heart of its priorities and anticipates the future by building flexible infrastructure capable of adapting to various environmental and climatic challenges.

This work led by Banadir Region embodies its profound commitment to ensuring a safer and more prosperous future for the residents of Mogadishu; through these engineering reviews, the region confirms that development does not stop at construction, but continues through maintenance and continuous assessment, so that the city remains a developmental oasis that meets its children’s aspirations and safeguards their achievements for future generations.
