SoDMA calls for concerted relief efforts in Awdal

MOGADISHU — The Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) has called for a comprehensive mobilization of relief efforts to address the repercussions of the drought in the northern region of Awdal.

During a meeting held at its headquarters in Mogadishu, SoDMA’s Chairman, Mr. Mohamud Moallim Abdulle, urged religious scholars, businessmen, and representatives from the banking and telecommunications sectors to provide urgent assistance to the affected communities.

Abdulle stated that the federal government has allocated $700,000 for the humanitarian response in the region, appealing to the private sector to match this contribution and participate in the efforts to mitigate the disaster’s impact.

Attendees, in turn, affirmed their religious and humanitarian duty to support the affected, pledging full participation in the relief campaign and collaboration with the agency on its future plans.

This appeal is part of the pivotal role SoDMA has played since its reactivation in 2022 in managing natural disasters. The agency has responded to the devastating floods that struck parts of the country in 2023, in addition to its efforts to secure food and provide humanitarian aid to displaced people
