Somali PM and WB discuss debt relief and development

MOGADISHU — The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Xamse Cabdi Barre, today received a delegation from the World Bank led by the Vice President for East and Southern Africa, Victoria Kwakwa, at his office.

The two discussed the development projects implemented by the World Bank and how to meet the real needs of the Somali people.

The Prime Minister said that when the Somali government completes the debt relief process, it will focus on implementing major infrastructure projects and utilizing the country’s abundant resources.

The Prime Minister said that the government will review the National Development Plan (NDP 9), and the World Bank is expected to align itself with it.

Victoria Kwakwa welcomed the efforts of the Somali government to complete the debt relief process and ensure security and care for citizens.

She promised that the World Bank will continue to provide various forms of support to the Somali government. She praised the government’s efforts to implement laws encouraging investment and economic growth and promised that the Somali government will continue working together on projects to strengthen infrastructure.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister, and ministers in charge of developmental projects implemented by the World Bank in Somalia.
