HARGEISA – Hargeisa General Hospital received two vehicles yesterday, Thursday, to support its health services and strengthen its operational capacity, including an ambulance, provided by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in cooperation with the Ministry of Resettlement and Humanitarian Affairs, as part of efforts to support health facilities and improve their ability to respond to the needs of patients and the most vulnerable groups.
The two vehicles were handed over during a ceremony held at Hargeisa General Hospital in the presence of the Minister of Health, who formally received them before handing them over to the hospital’s Director General for integration into the facility’s operations. The support comes within the framework of cooperation between government institutions and humanitarian partners to provide operational and logistical needs for health facilities and strengthen their ability to deliver more effective and regular services to patients.
The ambulance is expected to enhance the hospital’s capacity to respond to emergency cases and transport patients whose medical conditions require referral to specialized health facilities, helping reduce the time needed to respond to urgent cases. The second vehicle will be used to support the hospital’s operational and service-related activities, strengthening its ability to carry out daily tasks associated with the delivery of health care and services to the community.
The Ministry of Resettlement and Humanitarian Affairs stressed the importance of the support in strengthening the logistical capacity of Hargeisa General Hospital, noting the efforts made to deliver the assistance to the health facility. This reflects the importance of coordination between government institutions and international organizations in identifying priority needs and directing support toward areas capable of producing a direct impact on improving services provided to the population, particularly vulnerable groups, refugees and internally displaced persons.
The Director General of Hargeisa General Hospital welcomed the assistance and expressed his appreciation to the Ministry of Resettlement and Humanitarian Affairs and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, affirming that the two vehicles would strengthen the hospital’s ability to meet its operational needs and improve the quality of health services provided to patients. The Minister of Health also stressed during the handover ceremony the need to maintain the vehicles, ensure their proper use and direct them toward serving patients, thereby ensuring the sustainable benefit of the support provided.
The provision of the two vehicles to Hargeisa General Hospital comes within broader efforts to strengthen essential services for the most vulnerable groups, as transportation is an important component of the work of health facilities, particularly in responding to emergencies, transporting patients and facilitating medical referrals.
