Las Anod launches extensive tree-planting campaign for environmental sustainability

LAS ANOD — Las Anod Municipality, the capital of North East State, has launched a major tree-planting campaign aimed at establishing environmental sustainability and enhancing the city’s urban appearance, as part of a comprehensive strategic plan to address the accelerating climate challenges facing the region.

The Executive Secretary of the Municipality, Mr. Abdulkarim Dubad Bos, chaired an expanded official meeting to announce the initiative’s launch, attended by the Director of the Environment Department, Mr. Deeq Abdi Warsame, and featuring active participation from various municipal executive committees to establish field implementation mechanisms.

The campaign focuses on expanding green spaces by planting hundreds of trees in public squares and vital streets, directly contributing to air quality improvement and carbon emission reduction, while adding a sustainable aesthetic touch to the capital’s urban identity.

The meeting approved transforming these environmental relief efforts into a permanent institutional work program, extending to all residential neighborhoods and geographical areas to ensure the continuity of green growth and embed afforestation as an inherent social culture and a daily urban habit adopted by all residents.

The municipal leadership assigned a pivotal role to community committees in “Wadajir, Sidka, Heegan, Horseed, and Shabka” neighborhoods, viewing them as essential partners in implementation and monitoring to ensure the protection and care of new seedlings within a secure environment that guarantees growth sustainability.

The municipality called on neighborhood committees to activate community participation tools and mobilize youth energy to lead field environmental protection initiatives, emphasizing that success depends fundamentally on the residents’ responsiveness and positive interaction with the scheduled programs in each district.

The initiative also aims to raise environmental awareness across all segments of society, fostering a sense of individual responsibility toward preserving natural resources, which contributes to building a city resilient to environmental changes by replacing arid spaces with vibrant green environments.

This ambitious step reflects Las Anod Municipality’s vision of transitioning toward green and sustainable cities. Afforestation is not merely an improvement of the city’s general appearance; it is a long-term investment in the quality of life and the future of upcoming generations. By integrating official efforts with community initiatives, the city seeks to present a civilized model that balances urban development with the preservation of ecological equilibrium, reaffirming that collective awareness is the true guarantee for the sustainability of beauty and prosperity.
