MOGADISHU — Somalia’s Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation, Ali Yusuf Hosh, met with the newly appointed Head of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Somalia to discuss enhancing cooperation on displacement, refugee protection, and civil registration systems.
According to reports by Mustaqbal Media (MM), the meeting focused on addressing the pressing needs of millions of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees affected by decades of conflict and climate-related shocks.
Both parties emphasized the importance of tackling statelessness by improving access to legal identity and official documentation, viewed as a critical step toward enabling displaced populations to access essential services, education, and livelihood opportunities.
Minister Hosh underscored the federal government’s commitment to collaborating with UN agencies to find durable solutions for displacement. Meanwhile, the UNHCR representative reaffirmed the agency’s support for Somalia’s efforts to strengthen protection frameworks and long-term resilience, ensuring the dignity and rights of vulnerable populations are upheld.
