MOGADISHU — A feature report published by the official website of UNICEF highlighted the exceptional efforts of community mobilization teams in Dhusamareeb, Galmudug State, exemplified by Farhiyo Mohamed, a mother of five working as a social mobilizer to promote immunization and prevention cultures among families.
The official website of UNICEF reported that these efforts are part of the “Joint Resilience Programme,” funded by the German Government. Social mobilizers conduct daily household visits to provide guidance on vaccines, nutrition, and hygiene, translating complex medical concepts into simple stories and advice that meet mothers’ needs.
According to the official website of UNICEF, since June 2025, the program has successfully reached thousands of households, identifying children who missed vaccinations and linking their families to health services. This is complemented by awareness campaigns in schools and markets, as well as radio messaging aimed at reducing preventable illnesses.
As noted on the official website of UNICEF, Farhiyo stated that her mission goes beyond sharing information to building trust with parents. She expressed pride in seeing mothers respond directly by visiting health centers—a sentiment echoed by Malyuun Mohamed, a local mother who benefited from these visits to secure routine vaccinations for her youngest child. This reflects the tangible impact of such initiatives in building a healthy and resilient community, according to the official website of UNICEF.
