HARGEISA — Qatar Charity, in coordination with relevant housing and humanitarian authorities, has laid the foundation stone for the “Al Rayyan Model Village” project at the “Mohamed Moageb” camp south of Hargeisa. The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to bolster community development and provide stable residential environments for displaced families.
Reports published by the Qatari newspaper “Al-Sharq” indicated that the project comprises 41 housing units and integrated educational and health facilities. These include a primary and secondary school, a vocational training center, a health clinic, and a grand mosque. Construction is expected to be completed within 18 months.
According to “Al-Sharq” newspaper, Abdulfatah Adam Moalim, Director of Qatar Charity’s office in Somalia, stated that the project aims to transform informal settlements into organized and secure urban environments. He noted that the inclusion of a technical and vocational institute will play a pivotal role in empowering youth economically and facilitating their integration into the local labor market.
In this context, “Al-Sharq” highlighted the commendation of local officials in Hargeisa for this qualitative project. Suleiman Dualeh Haqi Jamea, Minister of Housing and Humanitarian Affairs, described the initiative as a “quantum leap” in improving the conditions of displaced persons and a successful model of effective partnership between government institutions and humanitarian organizations.
It is noteworthy that Qatar Charity inaugurated the “Barwaqo” Model Village in Baidoa earlier this year, featuring 67 housing units and comprehensive service facilities. This reflects the organization’s sustained commitment to providing sustainable residential and developmental solutions across various Somali regions.
