MOGADISHU — The Governor of Banadir Region and Mayor of Mogadishu, Dr. Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Muungaab), has announced a personal donation of $200,000 to support ongoing drought relief efforts in Awdal Region, located in northwestern Somalia.
The announcement came during a meeting on Thursday with federal ministers and MPs representing Awdal, who briefed the Mayor on the worsening humanitarian crisis in the region and relayed urgent appeals from local elders and leaders.
Dr. Muungaab underscored the importance of national solidarity and inter-regional support, stating that the Banadir Regional Administration has allocated the funds to help address the dire situation facing fellow Somalis in Awdal.
He further explained that the funds will be handed over to the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) to ensure coordinated and effective emergency response aimed at saving lives and preventing further deterioration.
The Mayor concluded by reaffirming the commitment of the people and leadership of Mogadishu to stand with their brothers and sisters in Awdal during this difficult time, stressing the need for collective action to confront the country’s recurring climate and humanitarian challenges.
