JOWHAR — The President of Hirshabelle State, Ali Abdullahi Hussein (Gudlawe), held a formal meeting on Wednesday at the State Presidential Palace in Jowhar with a delegation from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), to discuss ways to enhance collaboration in support of essential services for children and families in the region.
According to the Somali National News Agency (SONNA), the visiting delegation was led by Mr. Nasser Saeed, UNICEF Acting Representative and Head of Programs in Somalia. Prior to the meeting, the team visited Kulmis Health Center in Jowhar to assess the overall public health situation, with particular focus on maternal and child health services.
President Gudlawe expressed his administration’s appreciation for UNICEF’s ongoing humanitarian interventions across Hirshabelle. He reaffirmed the state’s readiness to facilitate the agency’s operations and called for more sustainable programs that build community resilience.
As reported by SONNA, the two sides discussed pressing challenges in the fields of health, education, nutrition, and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), especially in light of prolonged droughts and internal displacement. Both parties emphasized the need to strengthen coordination at both central and regional levels to improve the impact of humanitarian responses.
Mr. Nasser Saeed reaffirmed UNICEF’s commitment to supporting vulnerable children and families in Hirshabelle. He commended the cooperation shown by the regional leadership and stressed the importance of joint efforts in addressing urgent humanitarian needs and promoting long-term development.
This high-level meeting, according to SONNA, forms part of an ongoing partnership between UNICEF and Hirshabelle authorities aimed at advancing child protection and ensuring access to basic services in the most affected communities.
