Ten dead in tribal clashes in central Somalia

GALKAYO — Nearly 10 people have been killed and 15 others injured in a clash between two clan militias in the Labi Maygaag area in the eastern part of Mudug region.

The two warring clan militias hail from Puntland and Galmudug, and the conflict is rooted in territorial disputes and accumulated clan grievances.

Efforts are underway to quell the conflict, which has claimed the lives of many, primarily combatants from both sides.

The governors of Mudug region from both administrations have stated that military force will be used to stop the fighting between the two sides.

They announced that a joint force will be swiftly deployed to the conflict area.

Yesterday’s fighting, which lasted for several hours, subsided on its own, but there are fears that it may resume today as both militias continue to mobilize their forces.
