Roadside blast kills 6 workers in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU — At least six telecom workers were killed in a roadside blast on the outskirts of the Somali capital Mogadishu on Sunday.

Hormuud Telecom, a telecommunication company, said in a statement that six of its employees were travelling to the company’s offices when their vehicle ran over an improvised explosive device in Garasbaaley district.

“We express our deepest condolences to their families, friends, and colleagues, and pray for their eternal peace,” the company said in a statement issued on Sunday evening.

No group has claimed responsibility for the latest attack on the workers of the privately-owned telecom company but a similar blast destroyed the company’s offices in Mogadishu on March 19.

The telecom company has assisted in the distribution of humanitarian aid to millions of Somalis who have been affected by the drought and flooding across the country.
