IED explosion claims lives of suspected Alshabab member and two children

MOGADISHU —  A suspected Al-Shabab militant died along with his two children when an improvised explosive device (IED) he was making exploded in his house near Mogadishu on Saturday night. His wife was also injured in the blast.

The police spokesman told state-owned media that the incident occurred in Elasha Biyaha, 15km south of Mogadishu. However, no arrests were made after security forces arrived at the scene.

“A militant who was crafting landmines in his residence triggered an explosion that resulted in the deaths of his two children and injuries to his wife,” stated Abdifatah, the spokesman.

The incident is not the first of its kind, as explosions have previously occurred in houses where mines and other explosives were being prepared, both in Mogadishu and in different regions.
