Regional minister killed in mosque bombing in Baidoa

BAIDOA — The Minister of Justice of the South West State, Somalia, Hassan Ibrahim Lugbur, was killed on Friday in a bomb attack on a mosque in Baidoa.

Local media outlets say Lugbur’s son was also killed in the attack. Several other people were injured.

The bomb went off during morning prayers.

At the moment no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, although in recent months al-Shabaab has intensified actions of this kind.

Somalia’s South West State president has condemned the attack.

Baidoa, the largest city in the South West State, is located 245 kilometers (152 miles) southwest of the capital Mogadishu.
