MOGADISHU — Somalia’s Ministry of Transport and Aviation has announced the reopening of the country’s airspace to allow stranded citizens to come back home.
In a statement issued this morning, the ministry said a 15-day ban on all international flights will take effect after the 48 hours lapse.
The statement said only cargo planes carrying food and medicines will be allowed into the country after the 48 hours.
Somalia had banned international flights this week amid fears of the spread of the Coronavirus after neighbouring Kenya and Ethiopia announced cases of the deadly disease.
Somalia confirmed one case of Coronavirus and quarantined several others since the outbreak reached Africa.
Meanwhile, an Ethiopian Airlines plane arrived in the capital of the breakaway region of Somaliland, Hargeisa, just a day after a Fly Dubai plane was refused to land at the Egal International Airport by the Somali aviation authorities over Covid-19 fears.
