MOGADISHU – Somalia’s Deputy Prime Minister, H.E. Saleh Ahmed Jama, on Sunday inaugurated the women’s mental health unit at Lansaliti Hospital in Mogadishu, following the completion of comprehensive rehabilitation and modernization works covering infrastructure and modern medical equipment within the unit.
The inauguration comes as part of government efforts aimed at strengthening and developing specialized healthcare services, expanding medical care provision to citizens, with increasing focus on mental health as one of the key pillars of national health system development.
During the ceremony, the Deputy Prime Minister stated that the federal government places the health sector among its strategic priorities, emphasizing the importance of improving service quality and expanding coverage to ensure comprehensive and equitable healthcare for all citizens without exception.
He expressed appreciation for the support provided by the Government of Italy in implementing this project, noting that international partnerships contribute to strengthening healthcare infrastructure and enhancing the efficiency of medical institutions, particularly in specialized services targeting vulnerable groups.
He concluded by reaffirming the government’s continued commitment to health sector reform programs, including rehabilitation of health facilities, development of medical personnel, and expansion of healthcare services across the country.
The inauguration of the women’s mental health unit in Mogadishu represents an additional step in the Federal Government of Somalia’s efforts to strengthen the health sector, with growing recognition of mental health services as an essential component of comprehensive healthcare delivery.
