MOGADISHU — In a proactive step towards building a resilient society, the Federal Government of Somalia officially launched its nationwide campaign marking World Immunization Week in Mogadishu today, emphasizing the fundamental right of children to health.
The event was inaugurated by the Director General of the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Yusuf Hassan Isaaq, who highlighted the strategic importance of vaccines in mitigating life-threatening diseases for children under five years old.
Aligned with the global theme, “Every generation, vaccination is a reliable protection,” the campaign serves as a dedicated effort to raise public awareness and ensure comprehensive vaccine coverage across all diverse age groups.
The official ceremony witnessed the presence of senior ministry officials, department directors, and leadership from Banadir Hospital, alongside key international partners, including the World Health Organization and UNICEF, representing a unified humanitarian front.
During the session, health authorities presented data confirming significant progress in nationwide immunization services, marking a substantial decline in the prevalence of infectious diseases such as polio, measles, and diphtheria.
Speakers stressed that immunization remains a cost-efficient intervention against disability and death, urging parents to prioritize routine health check-ups to secure the future of their children through timely vaccination protocols.
The Ministry reaffirmed that all immunization services are provided free of charge at health facilities, with a reinforced commitment to expanding coverage to remote and underserved rural populations nationwide.
In his closing remarks, the Director General called for intensified efforts, urging Somali mothers specifically to participate actively in these health drives to construct a healthier, more resilient nation for future generations.
World Immunization Week stands as a global beacon of health, symbolizing the triumph of science and community unity. By protecting each generation, Somalia continues to weave a stronger, healthier fabric for its future, ensuring that the legacy of a safe childhood is gifted to every Somali child.
