Jubaland distributes Saudi aid to vulnerable families

KISMAYO — The Jubaland State Government of Somalia officially launched an extensive relief campaign today to distribute food assistance donated by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, responding to the dire humanitarian conditions exacerbated by severe drought cycles across the state.

Radio Dalsan local station reported that the distribution process was personally overseen by H.E. Mohamed Cusmaan Jaamac, Deputy Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, in coordination with the Jubaland Refugee and IDP Agency (JUCRI), to ensure transparent and efficient aid delivery.

The inaugural phase of this humanitarian initiative, monitored by Radio Dalsan, facilitated the distribution of integrated food baskets to approximately 3,020 families in the Luglow area, north of Kismayo, addressing the immediate impacts of acute food insecurity.

Radio Dalsan local station quoted the Deputy Minister expressing his profound gratitude to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for this generous contribution, implemented in partnership with the Tadamun Social Society, noting that such support is vital for restoring fractured livelihoods.

The Somali official stated to Radio Dalsan that while this aid serves as a critical lifeline for thousands, the magnitude of the climate-induced crisis necessitates a scaled-up international response focused on sustainable solutions beyond emergency relief.

The report by Radio Dalsan local station indicated that priority was given to displaced households that have lost their agricultural and livestock assets, thereby bolstering community resilience against the economic fallout of rainfall scarcity.

The Jubaland government issued an appeal via Radio Dalsan to the international community to intensify humanitarian interventions, revealing that the current relief roadmap aims to reach a total of 4,020 families in the coming days.

The refugee agency confirmed to Radio Dalsan local station that all relief operations adhere to rigorous auditing standards, commending the leading role of donors in easing the humanitarian pressure on overcrowded displacement camps.

Participants at the launch ceremony emphasized through Radio Dalsan that social stability in Jubaland is inextricably linked to food security, positioning current external support as a fundamental pillar in preventing deeper humanitarian crises.

This Saudi assistance arrives at a strategic juncture, enhancing Jubaland’s capacity to contain the repercussions of the protracted drought. The Kingdom’s central role in humanitarian work serves as a cornerstone for food security in the Horn of Africa.

According to observers, the success of this phase in Luglow demonstrates the effectiveness of institutional coordination between local authorities and international partners, paving the way for development initiatives capable of transitioning communities from vulnerability to sustainable recovery.
