MOGADISHU — The Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) has affirmed the commitment of the central government in Mogadishu by handing over $700,000 to the Drought Relief Committee in the Awdal Region. This amount is part of a broader national relief effort, combining $500,000 in donations from the Council of Ministers and $200,000 from the Benadir Regional Administration, reflecting the unity and solidarity of government institutions in the face of humanitarian challenges.
Mr. Mohamud Moallim Abdulle, Chairman of the Somali Disaster Management Agency, stated in a press release following the handover ceremony that this step “is a first gesture and not the end of our relief efforts,” calling on all partners and other institutions to intensify their actions. He added that humanitarian work requires a concerted effort to ensure aid reaches all those affected.
The handover ceremony was attended by several high-ranking government officials, including His Excellency Dr. Ilmi Mohamud Nur, Minister of Public Works and Housing, who affirmed the central government’s commitment to providing full support to citizens in all regions.
His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ali Hagaa, State Minister for Internal Security, stressed that humanitarian work is a national duty and a collective responsibility.
Other officials, including Dr. Mohamed Hassan Bulaale, Abdiwahab Abdi Omar, and MP Aisha Kos Mohamud, expressed their gratitude to the country’s top leadership and the Benadir Regional Administration for their generous initiative.
This move demonstrates the pivotal role played by the Somali Disaster Management Authority in coordinating humanitarian work in the country, ensuring a rapid and effective response to the urgent needs of the Somali people.
