Federal ministry of education launches accelerated basic education initiative

MOGADISHU —  The Ministry of Education, Culture and Higher Education of the Federal Republic of Somalia, in collaboration with the South West State Education Ministry, has launched the Accelerated Basic Education initiative in Baidoa.

The five-year programme aims to provide educational opportunities to over 60,000 children and youth unable to access schooling, focusing on girls.

The initiative emphasises Accelerated Basic Education (ABE) and Non-Formal Education (NFE) to enhance foundational literacy and numeracy skills.

The launch event was attended by federal and regional-level education ministries officials as well as representatives from the USAID-supported ABE programme.

The initial phase of the project has already been implemented in selected districts of South West Somalia, setting the stage for a broader regional impact.
