Somali PM receives a WHO delegation in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU — The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mr. Hamza Abdi Barre, today received a delegation led by the Director of the World Health Organization (WHO) for the Eastern Mediterranean Region, Dr. Hanan Balkhy.

The Prime Minister and the Director discussed strengthening efforts to enhance the country’s healthcare system and training healthcare workers, supporting maternal and child hospitals, and focusing on preventing health issues arising from climate change impacts, such as droughts and floods, which cause urgent health situations, including infectious diseases.

Prime Minister Hamza praised the continuous support of the World Health Organization to Somalia, commending their collaborative efforts with the Ministry of Health to prevent infectious diseases and improve various health services.

Dr. Hanan Balkhy, on her part, pledged that the World Health Organization would work with the Somali government to develop the country’s healthcare system.
