Second delivery of free Russian wheat arrives in Somalia

MOGADISHU — A second shipment of 25000 tons of relief wheat from Russia has arrived at the Mogadishu port.

The Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) commissioner Mahamud Moallim Abdulle while receiving the shipment said that the food aid will be distributed to people affected by draught and the El-Nino floods in various parts of the country.

Moscow has committed to assist Somalia in dealing with a hunger crisis due to prolonged droughts and recent floods which has displaced an estimated 250,000 people according to humanitarian organizations.

The United Nations has estimated that 4.1 million people in Somalia are facing hunger and are in dire need of humanitarian assistance.

Russia has distributed free grain to other African countries including Burkina Faso, Zombabwe, Mali and the Central African Republic.
