Hormuud University rolls out coursework programme for PhD students

MOGADISHU —  University has started its first PhD programme. The university recently signed an academic collaboration agreement with Lincoln University College in Malaysia.

The University has expanded rapidly over the years, from offering diploma, undergraduate and masters courses to a doctoral programme.

The launch of the programme on Wednesday is an indication of the growing demand for higher education.

The institution will have faculties of Social Sciences, Education, Strategic management, Accounting and Finance.

The President of Hormuud University Dr. Adam Shidane Guled urged graduates to take advantage of the opportunity, a step in the right direction and contribute towards excellence in the Education Sector.

“Today we have reached our goal of establishing a PhD programme after a successful implementation of the masters and degree courses we have been offering,” said Dr. Adam Shidane.

“When we have a large population that has diploma(s), degrees and masters, that will eventually have a direct impact on the social-economic development of our people,” he added.

The courses aim to promote research in social Science studies, and development, health corporate and communication.

The co-founder of the Heritage Institute for Policy Studies (HIPS) and former Minister for Planning, Investment and Economic Development Abdi Aynte said Hormuud University has long been associated with good teaching practice and this programme cements its good reputation in the sector.

“I congratulate Hormuud University and  Lincoln University College for their partnership and offering upto about six different PhD programs,” said Aynte.

Hormuud University is a private, Non-profit institution, established by elite members of Hormuud Telecommunication Company in 2010, University, majoring in the field of engineering and technology.

The university which has over 550 graduates since inception has been committed to provide quality, efficient and effective service to students and University Staff.
