Puntland brings partners together to strengthen humanitarian coordination

GAROWE — The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management of the Puntland Government, in cooperation with the Puntland Development Research Center (PDRC), organized the Humanitarian Coordination Forum in Garowe on Sunday evening, with the participation of government representatives, humanitarian and development actors, and local and international partners, to strengthen consultation and improve humanitarian coordination mechanisms in the state.

The forum brought together representatives of government institutions, religious scholars, business leaders, civil society organizations, United Nations agencies, and international and local humanitarian organizations. Participants discussed the importance of unifying efforts and strengthening cooperation among stakeholders to ensure a more effective humanitarian response.

Participants emphasized the need to improve coordination among humanitarian actors, exchange information, and identify priorities based on the actual needs of local communities, ensuring that assistance reaches the most vulnerable groups and achieves greater impact.

The forum comes amid ongoing humanitarian and climate-related challenges affecting several areas of Somalia, highlighting the need to strengthen partnerships between local authorities and humanitarian organizations, while developing joint mechanisms to respond to crises and support community resilience.

The Humanitarian Coordination Forum in Puntland reflects efforts to establish a more organized institutional framework for managing humanitarian assistance and enhancing the role of different partners in supporting local communities and improving the effectiveness of humanitarian interventions, in support of stability and development goals.

Puntland continues to face challenges related to drought, climate change, and increasing humanitarian needs, making stronger coordination a priority to ensure sustainable assistance and better access for affected communities. Local authorities continue to work with international and local partners to develop relief programs and strengthen community resilience against recurring crises.
