HARGEISA — Somaliland’s Ministry of Resettlement and Humanitarian Affairs on Tuesday organized elections for the new administrative committee of Naaso Hablood C internally displaced persons (IDP) camp in Hargeisa, as part of its efforts to strengthen good governance in displacement camps, promote transparency and accountability, and expand community participation in camp management through established institutional mechanisms.
The ministry said the elections are part of a regular program to renew camp management committees at the end of their mandates, ensuring institutional continuity, improving administrative efficiency, and enhancing services provided to displaced families. It added that the process contributes to stronger community participation and more effective camp administration for the benefit of residents.
Representatives of the camp community took part in the voting process, which the ministry described as free, transparent, and fair. The elections resulted in the selection of a new committee that will manage the camp for the next two years, strengthening administrative stability and improving coordination between camp residents and the relevant government authorities.
The Ministry of Resettlement and Humanitarian Affairs congratulated the newly elected committee and urged its members to carry out their responsibilities with integrity, cooperation, and a strong sense of public service while working to strengthen community cohesion, improve the living conditions of displaced families, and coordinate with relevant institutions to enhance humanitarian services and address the camp’s priority needs.
The Ministry of Resettlement and Humanitarian Affairs continues to implement programs aimed at improving the management of displacement camps, increasing community participation in decision-making, and expanding cooperation with local and international partners to enhance humanitarian services and promote durable solutions for displaced families amid continuing humanitarian challenges and the growing impacts of climate change across the region.
