Galmudug and UNICEF launch a comprehensive strategic development plan

DHUSAMAREB — The city of Dhusamareb, the capital of Galmudug State, witnessed the signing of a joint action plan between the Galmudug State Government and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). The plan aims to enhance essential services and improve living conditions for the population within the framework of a strategic partnership to support local development efforts through December 2027.

The signing ceremony was attended by H.E. Ahmed Abdi Karie, President of Galmudug State, along with several government officials and representatives from the international organization. A development cooperation program worth a total of $35.8 million was approved, dedicated to implementing a package of strategic projects that address the immediate needs of citizens across various vital sectors.

The joint plan includes qualitative development interventions in the healthcare sector, with a special focus on maternal and child health. It also supports the education sector by expanding children’s access to basic educational services, in addition to developing water and environmental sanitation services, and implementing specialized programs aimed at poverty reduction and improving living conditions for the most vulnerable groups.

H.E. the President of Galmudug State affirmed that this agreement serves as a new milestone in the partnership with international stakeholders. He emphasized the importance of intensifying efforts to translate approved resources and programs into tangible projects on the ground, thereby contributing to the elevation of public services and the achievement of sustainable development across the state.

For their part, participating officials expressed their hope that this plan would enhance the efficiency of local institutions and their ability to respond to the growing needs of the population. They confirmed that the approved programs are based on precise priorities that reflect the needs of local communities, ensuring the equitable and transparent allocation of resources to maximize the intended developmental impact.

The implementation of the plan’s phases is scheduled to commence gradually according to a specific timeline, in close coordination between the relevant government ministries, institutions, and development partners. This approach ensures the achievement of the strategic goals and enhances institutional performance efficiency over the next two years, serving the greater good of the community in Galmudug.

The partnership between the Galmudug State Government and UN agencies constitutes a pivotal pillar for supporting the state’s development and the rehabilitation of public facilities. This new plan with UNICEF serves as a long-term strategic investment in human capital, aimed at improving the quality of life for current and future generations. By adopting a development approach rooted in sustainability, the state seeks to build a resilient service system capable of adapting to challenges, paving the way toward a more stable and prosperous future in line with the state’s vision for achieving comprehensive development.
