Ministry of Env. concludes national tree planting week in Banadir region

MOGADISHU — In a scene overflowing with national values and moral responsibility toward nature, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change concluded the “National Tree Planting Week” with an official ceremony held at the Banadir Region headquarters in Mogadishu; laying a new foundation in the edifice of sustainable development that places humanity and the environment at the core of its strategic vision.

This initiative embodies the hopes of a “Greener Somalia,” as the Ministry approaches tree planting not merely as a technical or administrative operation, but as a noble message of hope aimed at improving the quality of citizens’ lives and providing healthy spaces that preserve the dignity of future generations and protect them from the challenges of climate change.

The closing ceremony was attended by H.E. Ahmed Omar Mohamed, Minister of State for Environment and Climate Change, accompanied by high-level officials from the Banadir Region, including: the Deputy Governor for Public Works, Mr. Abdulmajid Tahir Aden; the Secretary General of the Regional Administration, Mr. Bilan Bille; and the Director of Environment and Water, Mr. Mahad Abdi Farah; who participated with a human touch in planting trees, embodying the spirit of sincere teamwork for the nation.

The Ministry confirmed that the activities of this week were not just statistics in achievement records, but a sentimental journey that extended to touch the lives of people in all districts of the Banadir Region, where the efforts of officials and citizens united to sow the seeds of awareness regarding the importance of preserving biodiversity as an integral part of our survival and safety.

In a speech that resonated with community aspirations, the Minister emphasized that harmony between federal agencies and local administrations is the true guarantee for protecting communities from climate risks, praising the tangible cooperation with the Banadir Region administration, which has proven that environmental work is a sophisticated national act based fundamentally on serving humanity and safeguarding its right to a clean environment.

These activities fall within a comprehensive human-centric vision adopted by the Ministry to transform our cities into more welcoming spaces, capable of withstanding natural risks, as the trees here aim to provide shade, moderate the air, and spread tranquility, which positively reflects on the society’s health and psychological well-being.

Officials indicated that these initiatives represent a new chapter of environmental partnership that the Ministry intends to extend to all parts of the nation, based on its firm belief that the environment is the only safe haven for generations that aspire to live in a stable and prosperous homeland.

The seedlings that resulted from the efforts of the National Week are a symbol of civilized cohesion; every plant sown in Banadir’s soil reflects a moral commitment to the land and a deep realization of the responsibility to preserve the environmental heritage that expresses the nation’s identity and its people’s aspirations for a bright future.

In conclusion, this initiative forms a new covenant between humanity and the land; with every seedling that strikes its roots deep, our hopes are renewed for a nation determined to restore its natural luster, drawing a sustainable ecological portrait that guarantees children their right to a homeland that pulses with life, reflecting Somalia’s heritage.
