BRA supports free education and modernizes discipline

MOGADISHU — In an educational milestone reflecting her keenness to build a knowledgeable generation, Somalia launched a new phase of support for public education from the heart of Mogadishu. This initiative ensures a safe and stimulating school environment that opens future horizons for her children without obstacles.

Strategic Initiative for School Empowerment

H.E. Dr. Hassan Mohamed Hussein, Governor of Banadir Region and Mayor of Mogadishu, officially activated this Wednesday the initiative to subsidize the operational costs of public schools. This strategic step aims to enhance the sustainability and quality of free educational services throughout the capital and its surroundings.

​Developing Facilities and Enhancing Quality

Translating these directives, H.E. Abdirahman Ali Mohamed, Director General of Education, held an extensive meeting with school principals to oversee the implementation of this support. The meeting focused on improving educational facilities, technical preparations for national exams, and intensifying quality control programs.

Easing Burdens and Preserving Dignity

The Director General emphasized that this support serves as a fundamental pillar for operational efficiency and eases the financial burden on Somali families. He noted that Somalia prioritizes education in her national agenda, while school principals confirmed the receipt of allocations that will enhance administrative flexibility.

Humanizing Discipline and Protecting Students

In a related context, Banadir Region Administration (BRA) approved new educational policies, including a ban on locking school gates against late students as a punitive measure. This humanitarian step protects the student’s right to learn and prevents dropouts, encouraging innovative discipline methods that preserve student dignity.

National Partnership for a Bright Future

The administration concluded its meetings by stressing the importance of close coordination between local authorities and the educational community. It reaffirmed that advancing education is a national mission requiring integrated efforts and transparent resource management to achieve Somalia’s major developmental goals.
