Riyadh heals wounds of Somalia’s displaced with food aid

MOGADISHU — In a humanitarian gesture translating the values of brotherhood and solidarity, and as the dawn of Eid Al-Fitr approaches, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia continues to extend a helping hand to affected families in Somalia, according to recent field reports by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

​Zakat Al-Fitr Initiative

The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported that the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) successfully completed the distribution of 10,000 bags of rice as part of the Zakat Al-Fitr project for 1447 AH. This included an initial batch of 6,000 bags, followed by an additional 4,000 bags in the Banadir region to meet the needs of the underprivileged in overcrowded camps.

​Beneficiary Scope in Banadir

Distribution operations in the Banadir region covered the “Warasho,” “Al-Lattur,” “Khair Abur,” “Ramas,” “Sahel,” and “Mamous” camps. As reported by SPA, a total of approximately 80,000 individuals benefited from this overall allocation, reflecting the inclusiveness of Saudi benevolence directed toward the most vulnerable and densely populated areas.

Food Security Support in Sanaag

In a related context, under the fourth phase of the Food Security Support Project, the Centre distributed 800 food baskets in the Sanaag region, targeting families lacking basic resources. The Saudi Press Agency confirmed that about 5,215 individuals from the region, residing in remote areas, benefited from this specialized assistance.

Timing and Humanitarian Significance

These relief movements coincide with the final days of the holy month of Ramadan, directly contributing to alleviating the living burdens of displaced families. It ensures their participation in the joy of Eid by providing basic food requirements announced by the Centre through SPA to enhance social and psychological stability.
