Somali immigration agency supports drought relief efforts

MOGADISHU — The Somali Immigration and Citizenship Agency held an official ceremony to hand over a donation of $14,400, contributed by its staff to the “Daryeel Bulsho” Youth Organization, a prominent group in humanitarian relief.

The funds are designated to provide essential water, food, and urgent relief supplies to families affected by the severe drought across various regions, aimed at bolstering community resilience during these challenging times.

Sheikh Bashir Ahmed Salad, Chairman of the Somali Scholars’ Council, emphasized the religious and national importance of mutual support among Somalis, noting that such initiatives significantly strengthen the social and national fabric during crises.

Mohamed Ali Siyad, Chairman of Daryeel Bulsho, noted that the Immigration and Citizenship Agency is the first government body to respond to their humanitarian call, expressing deep gratitude for the staff’s exemplary commitment.

Osman Muhyiddin Shaatax, Chairperson of the Civil Society Organizations Forum, praised the proactive step, stating that it serves as an inspiring model and incentive for other national institutions to join drought relief efforts.

H.E. Mustafa Dhuhulow, Director-General of the Immigration and Citizenship Agency, encouraged Somali youth to continue their pivotal role in community initiatives, affirming the agency’s enduring commitment to its humanitarian responsibilities.

The Director-General expressed concern over the dire humanitarian conditions and acute water shortages in certain areas, calling on all national stakeholders to support affected citizens and intensify field relief operations to save lives.

This initiative falls within the framework of activating integrated partnerships between the government sector and civil society to ensure aid reaches the most vulnerable groups and provides urgent solutions to climate-related challenges.

The ceremony concluded with participants stressing the need for sustainable humanitarian efforts and transforming them into continuous programs to build a social protection system capable of effectively facing environmental shocks.

This model of institutional solidarity lays the foundation for a new era of humanitarian work in Somalia, where sovereign agencies transform into beacons of community giving. The success of this initiative is measured not just by its financial value, but by the collective awareness it has fostered—affirming that sustainable solutions to national crises always emerge from within. It underscores the belief that sincere contributions can make a profound difference in the lives of those in need, ultimately bolstering the nation’s developmental stability and comprehensive human security.
