Somalia to receive 100 mln USD for climate resilience

INCHEON SONGDO — The Minister of Environment and Climate Change of the Federal Government of Somalia, Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi, signed a financing agreement for a project to enhance Somalia’s adaptation and resilience to climate change in agriculture.

This project, approved by the Green Climate Fund (GCF), was officially endorsed during the 40th board session of the GCF held in Incheon Songdo, South Korea.

The project, with a budget of $100 million, is the first of its kind to be specifically approved for Somalia. Minister Al-Makhzoumi emphasized the initiative’s historic importance, given the country’s severe impacts from climate change, including recurrent droughts, floods, water shortages, and challenges in agriculture and fisheries.
