SCC and DMA chiefs discuss aid distribution to inmates

MOGADISHU — In an effort to address the welfare of inmates across the nation’s prisons, officials from the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) and the Somali Prison Force convened to deliberate on strategies for delivering aid to prisoners, with a primary focus on those incarcerated in Mogadishu Central Prison.

The Chairman of the Somali Disaster Management Agency, Mohamoud Moallim Abdulle, welcomed General Mahad Abdirahman Adam, the Chief of the Somali Custodial Corps(SCC), to the headquarters of SoDMA for discussions centered on “enhancing cooperation and ensuring the effective distribution of aid to inmates.”

During the meeting, key stakeholders, including the Governor and the Commissioner of Corrections, emphasized the importance of prioritizing aid delivery to prisoners, particularly those housed in Mogadishu Central Prison, which serves as a focal point for the country’s correctional system.

According to a statement issued following the meeting, discussions revolved around the mechanisms for channeling assistance provided by SoDMA directly to prisoners, with an emphasis on improving living conditions and addressing humanitarian needs within the prison facilities.

The Commander of the Correctional Force, Gen. Mahad Abdirahman Adam, underscored the significance of fostering close cooperation between the correctional authorities and SoDMA to streamline aid delivery processes and ensure that resources reach those most in need.

As part of the visit, Gen. Mahad Abdirahman Adam toured the different offices of the SoDMA center, underscoring the commitment of both agencies to collaboration and mutual support in advancing the welfare of inmates and promoting rehabilitation efforts within the correctional system.

SoDMA said the meeting, which was attended by senior officers from the Correctional Force and SoDMA officials, including directors and senior advisors, exemplifies the government’s proactive approach towards addressing humanitarian concerns and enhancing the efficacy of prison management systems across the country.

The chairman of SoDMA, Mohamud Moallim Abdulle expressed gratitude for the constructive dialogue and reiterated SoDMA’s commitment to working closely with the Correctional Force to ensure the well-being and dignity of prisoners are upheld, in alignment with international standards and human rights principles.
