Minister of planning meets with UNICEF rep. to Somalia

MOGADISHU — Somalia’s Minister of Planning and Economic Development Amb. Gamal Mohamed Hassan accompanied by the Director General of the Ministry Asad Yussuf Qanyare on Monday received the representative of UNICEF for Somalia, Ms. Wafaa ElFadil Saeed Abdelatef.

The UNICEF envoy had paid courtesy call on the Minister at his office in the capital Mogadishu.

They discussed a variety of issues including the constant support of the of the organization to Somalia and the scaling up of humanitarian assistance to the drought ravaged Somali people.

Amb. Gamal thanked the Abdelatef for the continued unwavering support to Somalia and called on the organizion to bolster humanitarian response efforts to the country.

The UNICEF representative assured the Minister the organization’s commitment to furthering and advancing the support to Somali government especially in the area of drought mitigation.

Somalia is grappling with the worst drought in decades due to three consecutive failed rainy seasons which has sparked huge displacement of people and decimation of crops and livestock.
