MOGADISHU — Somalia’s Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management (MoHADM) has today dispatched first food aid to Buhoodle district.
The aid is expected to be distributed to needy families as the town hosts many people fled from their homes due to the ongoing devastating drought.
Somalia is facing the worst drought since 40 years after three successive failed rainy seasons ad the number of seeking in internally Displaced Persons IDPS camps continues to scourge day by day.
The United Arab Emirates delivered 26 cargo containers of essential food donation from United Arab Emirates Red Crescent.
The ministry received the consignment at the Aden Abdulle International Airport on Thursday April 7.
According to UN agencies, close to 4.5 million people in the East African Nation are at the risk of starvation and diseases. Dozens of people have been displaced and fled their homes across the country with the number of people trooping into Internally Displaced Persons IDPS camps ballooning day by day.
The global organizations operating in the country have escalated calls for funding in a bid to alleviate the effects of the ongoing severe drought which has also sparked famine and outbreak of diseases with vulnerable people being women and children.
