MOGADISHU — Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mohamed Hussein Roble, received in his office the UK Special Representative for Famine and Humanitarian Affairs, Nick Dyer.
PM Roble spoke with Nick Dyer and his entourage about the drought situation in the country and how to provide relief to the Somali people affected by the drought.
The UK’s Special Envoy for Famine and Humanitarian Affairs Nick Dye says they are ready to help with the drought situation in Somalia.
“The lives of people in Somalia are on the line. We know from 2017 when we and partners acted early, lives were saved. We can and must provide the assistance that the most vulnerable need and save lives.” said Nick Dyer.
A UK released statement added “While in Somalia, Mr. Dyer announced an additional $8 million (£5.5 million) package of UK support to deal with the effects of the drought. This is in addition to the $10 million announced by the UK’s Minister for Africa, Vicky Ford in January 2022.”
Some regions of the country are currently experiencing a severe drought, and it is difficult to reach some of the drought-affected people in the country, due to security concerns.
