MOGADISHU — The Somali government has on Tuesday begun distributing an aid shipment from received from the UAE to assist with the country’s current drought.
Somali Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Khadija Mohamed Diriye said the government has started to distribute the aid to Garbaharey, Beledweyne and Hudur which are one of the worst affected areas.
She noted that the rest of the aid will be distributed to people with special needs in the Benadir region.
On Friday, Somali PM accompanied humanitarian minister alongside other government dignitaries received an aid shipment from the UAE to assist with the country’s current drought.
The UN estimates the drought is affecting about 2.3 million people and has forced more than 100,000 from their homes in search of food and water.
