Reprieve for eighteen students in Barawe as govt airlifts them for exams in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU — The Ministry of Education Sunday airlifted 18 secondary school students from Barawe to Mogadishu to sit for their final exams.

The Ministry moved in to airlift the students after they failed to sit for the first paper Saturday as they could not access the exam center.

Students in the region were expected to converge in Marka town where there is a designated exams center.

In responding to their plight, the Ministry said it had made arrangements for the students to complete their exams in the capital Mogadishu and ensure they sit for the missed papers.

Form four exams kicked off Saturday and will be done in all Federal Member States save for Puntland which does not ascribe to the standardized exams.

Over 30,000 students are expected to sit for the exams up from less than 10,000 when the first national exam started in 2015.

Class eight candidates completed their exams this past week.
