Chairman of EDRC dies from COVID-19 in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU — Abdullahi Abyan Nur, Somalia’s chairman Electoral Disputes Resolution Committee(EDRC), died from Covid-19 at De-Martini Hospital in Mogadishu on Friday night.

His death was confirmed by Chairman at the Federal Electoral Implementation Team (FEIT) Mohamed Irro.

He was admitted to De-Martini Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on last week.

Former Somali Prime Minister Hassan Ali Kheyre and others leaders sent condolence messages to the family and friends of Abyan.

”I extend my deepest condolences to the people of Somalia, to the members of the Electoral Commission and to the family of the late Abdullahi Abyan Nur, Chairman of the Electoral Dispute Resolution Committee who passed on in Mogadishu,” former Somali Prime Minister Hassan Ali Kheyre said.

Abdullahi Abyan Nur, was appointed Chair of Somali Electoral Disputes Resolution Committee last year December.

He worked for Hidigta Oktoobar and Radio Mogadishu from 1976 to 1990 before venturing into peace and social cohesion after the Civil War.

Abdillahi was born in Jamame district in the Lower Juba region in 1955, where he also received his primary education.
