Somali Prime Minister launches nationwide secondary exams

MOGADISHU — Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre of the Federal Government of Somalia officially launched the 2026 nationwide secondary school examinations today, alongside the conclusion of the national grade eight examinations, marking a key milestone in the country’s efforts to strengthen and stabilize its education sector.

The Prime Minister emphasized that education remains a strategic priority for the government, noting that recent efforts have focused on improving the quality of the education system and enhancing academic environments to raise student performance.

He stated that the national vision places education at the center of modern state-building, highlighting its role in strengthening human capital as the main driver of national development and progress.

He further explained that education is not only a path to individual success but also a cornerstone of state-building and modernization, as well as a cultural and religious value strongly emphasized in Islamic teachings.

The Prime Minister said that investing in education is a direct investment in the future of the nation, reaffirming the government’s commitment to continuing reforms in curricula and educational systems to meet modern demands.
