MOGADISHU — H.E. Ayub Ismail Yusuf, Somali Minister of Public Works, Reconstruction, and Housing, held a high-level strategic session today in Mogadishu with the leadership of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to discuss accelerating national infrastructure development, as reported by the Somali National News Agency (SONNA).
The executive meeting focused on strengthening the national framework for the resettlement of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). Both sides reviewed integration mechanisms between reconstruction projects and humanitarian plans to ensure sustainable residential stability, according to the National News Agency.
The Minister confirmed during the talks that the Federal Government has formally designated specific land tracts for resettlement projects, engineered to include all integrated essential services, ensuring these areas are transformed into productive urban centers provided with the foundations of a dignified life.
The national strategy reviewed by the Minister involved establishing advanced vocational training centers within resettlement areas, aimed at empowering IDPs and providing them with necessary skills to create sustainable livelihoods, contributing to economic resilience and self-reliance away from relief aid.
For his part, Mr. Manuel Marques Pereira, IOM representative, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to providing technical and logistical support for the Ministry’s plans, praising the Somali government’s systematic approach to managing reconstruction and housing according to modern institutional standards.
The international delegation highlighted the ongoing positive impact of specialized joint programs, such as “Daris-Wacan,” “Saameynta,” and “Resilience,” which serve as pivotal pillars in supporting the state’s strategic goals for reconstruction and achieving comprehensive social stability across various regions.
The meeting emphasized the importance of close coordination between government institutions and international partners, as the Ministry of Works leads resettlement initiatives and stabilizes national infrastructure through robust international partnerships characterized by transparency and field professionalism.
The session concluded by affirming the activation of technical oversight mechanisms for ongoing projects to ensure quality and timely implementation, consolidating Somalia’s position as a rising state seeking to rebuild its urban identity through an integrated architectural and humanitarian vision.
