MOGADISHU — Driven by a profound commitment to human solidarity and the alleviation of suffering caused by natural disasters, Qatar Charity, in strategic partnership with the Somali National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), has launched an essential food aid initiative designed to provide a lifeline for 6,000 families grappling with the severe impact of drought across Somalia.
The inauguration took place at the Somali Police Force Orphanage Center in Mogadishu, in the presence of H.E. Abdalla Bin Salim Al-Nuaimi, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Somalia, and H.E. Mohamud Moalim Abdulle, Chairman of SoDMA.
Mr. Abdifitah Aadan Moalim, Director of Qatar Charity’s office, noted that the project is timed to support vulnerable households ahead of the Holy Month of Ramadan, reaching those in the Banadir region and beyond.
H.E. the Qatari Ambassador reaffirmed that this support is a manifestation of the enduring brotherhood between the two nations and Qatar’s global humanitarian mission.
Concluding the ceremony, the Chairman of SoDMA lauded the rapid response of the State of Qatar, emphasizing that such pivotal assistance is crucial for reinforcing national efforts to mitigate the humanitarian crisis triggered by prolonged environmental shifts.
This initiative serves as a vital component of the broader international effort to address food insecurity in the Horn of Africa. By integrating national oversight with international humanitarian expertise, such projects foster community resilience and provide indispensable protection for vulnerable populations facing the increasing frequency of climate-related shocks.
